DOT Special – VHAGAR Thermal Shock Chambers

Thermal Shock Chambers for Rapid Temperature Change Testing

The VHAGAR thermal shock chambers by Il Disgelo are designed to perform rapid and repeated temperature variation tests on components, materials and systems, exposing specimens to extreme thermal conditions in a controlled and repeatable way.

Each chamber is custom-engineered according to the required temperature ranges, specimen characteristics and mass, transfer times, number of cycles, applicable standards and the specific characteristics of the installation environment.

The VHAGAR platform makes it possible to assess the reliability, resistance and durability of products exposed to sudden temperature changes, reproducing severe test conditions that help identify latent defects, assembly criticalities and potential design limitations.

Configuration for Thermal Shock Testing

VHAGAR chambers are designed to perform controlled cycles between different thermal zones, ensuring rapid and repeatable transitions between hot and cold conditions.

The system configuration is defined considering:

  • temperature ranges of the different zones;
  • specimen dimensions and mass;
  • thermal load generated by the product under test;
  • required transfer times;
  • dwell times in the hot and cold zones;
  • number and duration of cycles;
  • specimen transfer method;
  • temperature stability and uniformity;
  • accessibility and characteristics of the test area;
  • integration with acquisition and control systems.

The thermal systems and transfer mechanism are sized according to the required test conditions and specimen characteristics, with the aim of maintaining high repeatability during continuous cycles and particularly severe test programmes.

Custom-Engineered Thermal Shock Solutions

VHAGAR chambers enable qualification, reliability, durability and validation testing on components and materials subjected to rapid temperature variations.

Each solution is configured considering:

  • hot and cold temperature ranges;
  • specimen dimensions and characteristics;
  • thermal mass of the specimen;
  • transfer speed and method;
  • dwell times in the different zones;
  • number and frequency of cycles;
  • stability and uniformity of thermal conditions;

Complex Thermal Shock Testing

The validation of components and materials often requires exposure to particularly rapid and severe temperature variations, with the aim of assessing product behaviour under repeated thermal expansion and contraction.

VHAGAR chambers allow users to:

  • perform programmable thermal shock cycles;
  • expose specimens to rapid transitions between hot and cold conditions;
  • verify resistance to thermal expansion and contraction;
  • identify latent defects, cracks and assembly criticalities;
  • evaluate the behaviour of solder joints, connections and interfaces;
  • verify performance, reliability and long-term resistance;
  • reproduce extreme thermal conditions in a controlled and repeatable way;
  • identify anomalies and potential design criticalities;
  • integrate customer-specific test procedures.

‎ ‎ ‎

DOT Control Technology

All VHAGAR thermal shock chambers can be equipped with:

  • DOT Touch Panel;
  • proprietary CliMaLogic® software;
  • industrial PLC;
  • supervision, remote management and data logging through DIDRUS.

The control platform allows thermal shock cycles to be programmed, managed and recorded while monitoring the temperatures of the different zones, transfer sequences and test progress, maintaining the same technological architecture used throughout the Il Disgelo DOT range.

Reliability for Industrial Use

VHAGAR chambers are designed for continuous operation and for integration into qualification, testing, research and validation processes for components and materials.

Robust construction, high-efficiency insulation, correctly sized thermal systems and controlled management of temperature transitions make it possible to achieve a stable and reliable solution suitable even for prolonged and particularly severe test cycles.

The custom-engineered design allows each chamber to be configured according to the component under test, required temperature ranges, transfer times, specimen mass, test procedures and the space available in the installation environment.
