TEXA PROJECT
TCEM Climatic Chamber with ACU for E-Motor and Dynamometer Testing
The TEXA Project involves the development of an advanced TCEM climatic chamber equipped with an external Air Conditioning Unit (ACU), engineered by Il Disgelo for high-performance testing applications in the e-mobility, validation, and e-powertrain development sectors.
The solution was designed to perform severe environmental tests on electric motors coupled with an external dynamometer, ensuring high accuracy, repeatability, and seamless integration with the customer’s test benches. The modular architecture physically separates the climatic chamber from the air treatment and refrigeration unit, improving installation flexibility, accessibility, and ease of maintenance.
The chamber is specifically engineered to operate reliably under high thermal loads and complex dynamic test cycles, which are typical of durability and validation activities.
Main System Features
-
TCEM climatic chamber with an internal test volume of approximately 1500 liters, insulated with high-thickness mineral wool
-
Modular external ACU, connected via insulated flexible air ducts up to 5 meters
-
Operating ranges:
-
Temperature: from -40 °C to +125 °C
-
Climatic testing: from +10 °C to +95 °C with humidity control from 10 to 95% RH
-
-
High airflow recirculation (3000 Nm³/h) to ensure uniformity and stability of test conditions
-
Designed for E-Motor + Dyno testing, with the dynamometer located outside the chamber
-
Management of thermal loads up to 6 kW under steady-state conditions
-
Linear heating and cooling ramps with high control accuracy
Technology and Control
The conditioning system is based on a two-stage refrigeration circuit using R452A refrigerant, offering high efficiency and reduced environmental impact. Heating is provided by armored electric heaters with redundant safety protections, while humidification is achieved through an automatically controlled steam generator.
System operation is managed by a PLC with proprietary CliMaLogic® software, enabling:
-
Multi-step and macro test cycle programming
-
Precise temperature and humidity control via PT1000 sensors and capacitive probes
-
Data recording and export in CSV format
-
Integration with external data acquisition systems via Ethernet and Modbus TCP/IP
-
Remote monitoring and scheduled maintenance management
Customer Value
The TEXA Project highlights Il Disgelo’s capability to deliver custom high-performance climatic solutions tailored to the real needs of automotive test centers and R&D departments. The combination of modular design, extended operating ranges, and advanced control technology makes this system an ideal platform for next-generation testing of electric motors and electric drivetrain systems
