Controlled-humidity environment with −25 °C dew point for experimental activities and advanced research
Il Disgelo designed and built a high-performance Dry Room for the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), installed at the Environmental Park in Turin and developed for experimental processes requiring extremely controlled thermo-hygrometric conditions.
The solution was engineered to maintain a −25 °C dew point with room temperature controlled between +23 °C and +25 °C, ensuring stable and repeatable conditions during laboratory activities. The system was subsequently upgraded through an expansion and enhancement of the dehumidification system, while maintaining the original performance even with the increase in usable volume.
Developed solution
The Dry Room uses an insulated structure specifically designed to minimize moisture infiltration and ensure the required dew point is maintained.
The expansion included the construction of a new room of approximately 16.7 m³, integrated with the existing structure by means of PUR polyurethane sandwich panels and a fully resin-coated floor. At the same time, the air-treatment system was upgraded through the installation of a second Munters enthalpic dehumidifier, operating in parallel with the existing unit.
The system was designed to ensure:
- maintenance of a −25 °C dew point;
- controlled room temperature between +23 °C and +25 °C;
- high vapor-tightness of the structure;
- uniform air distribution through perforated micro-ducts;
- increased usable volume without compromising thermo-hygrometric performance;
- high-efficiency enthalpic dehumidification;
- separate management of the new area to reduce energy consumption when not in use;
- independent dew point monitoring in the expanded section;
- door and lighting management through the control system;
- remote supervision and integration with external systems;
- maintenance management through CliMaLogic®.

Result
The solution enables the Italian Institute of Technology to carry out experimental activities inside an environment characterized by very low humidity levels and controlled thermo-hygrometric conditions, maintaining a −25 °C dew point even after the Dry Room expansion.
The integration of a high-tightness structure, resin-coated flooring, low-velocity air distribution and dual enthalpic dehumidification system ensures operational continuity, uniform environmental conditions and flexible use of the different Dry Room areas.
