Custom systems for testing and validation of batteries and electrification components

Il Disgelo developed for COMAU Electrification a project dedicated to testing and validation activities in the e-mobility sector, integrating large-volume Walk-In chambers and DOT DRACARYS thermostatic chambers configured according to EUCAR 6 requirements.

The project was designed to support testing on batteries and electrification systems, combining thermal control, management of high DUT heat loads, integration with COMAU equipment and dedicated safety systems for both the DUT and the operator.

Developed Solution

The configuration includes two 85.7 m³ Walk-In chambers, intended for installation at the COMAU facility in Slovenia, together with a series of 1450 L DOT DRACARYS chambers developed for different thermal profiles and battery-testing activities.

The system was designed to provide:

  • controlled testing on batteries and electrification systems;
  • management of high thermal loads generated by the DUTs;
  • uniform air distribution around the systems under test;
  • integration with COMAU equipment and support frames;
  • safety configurations dedicated to EUCAR hazard levels;
  • H₂, CO and O₂ detection;
  • gas sampling and management systems;
  • ventilation and air-exchange systems using ATEX components;
  • overpressure relief and controlled discharge devices;
  • electromagnetic door locking;
  • monitoring, programming and recording of test parameters;
  • integration with external systems via Ethernet and Modbus TCP/IP.

Result

The project enabled COMAU Electrification to create a testing platform dedicated to batteries and electric-mobility systems, combining large Walk-In environments for complete equipment and systems with DOT DRACARYS chambers dedicated to more specific thermal tests.

The integration of thermal control, heat-load management, dedicated interfaces and EUCAR safety systems makes it possible to address different testing scenarios within an infrastructure developed around the specific requirements of the laboratory and the DUTs.
