Installation of 4 DOT TCEM Climate Chambers at Stellantis, Poissy (France)


At the Stellantis plant in Poissy, four DOT TCEM-40 climatic chambers have been installed for the validation of electric drivetrains and e-axles under controlled environmental conditions.

Laboratory configuration

  • 2 × TCEM 2.9 m³

  • 2 × TCEM 4.0 m³ with Z-axis movement

This hybrid architecture was selected to cover the full range of dynamometer test bench configurations present at the site.


Why two different volumes

The laboratory integrates test benches with different mechanical layouts.
For this reason, two chamber sizes have been implemented.


TCEM 2.9 m³

Standard and compact configurations

Main applications:

  • compact powertrain testing

  • fixed kinematic configurations

  • fixed-through shaft layouts

Key advantages:

  • higher compactness

  • reduced cycle times

  • improved energy efficiency


TCEM 4.0 m³ with Z-axis

Variable and multi-setup configurations

Designed for:

  • larger or more complex e-axles

  • adjustable kinematic test benches

  • vertical accessibility requirements

The Z-axis movement allows:

  • adjustment of drivetrain shaft position

  • increased flexibility in test bench setup

  • reduced setup time between test programs


Application requirements

  • Temperature range: −40 °C / +90 °C

  • Thermal gradient: up to 4 °C/min

  • Heat dissipation: 1.5 kW at −40 °C

  • Humidity control: 20% – 95% RH

  • Climatic operating range: +10 °C / +90 °C

  • Stability: ±0.5 °C

  • Integration with existing dynamometer benches

  • Safety for high-power testing


Structural design

Double-shell stainless steel construction:

  • lower shell anchored to seismic mass

  • upper shell liftable via overhead crane

  • insulation: 150 mm rock wool

Floor:

  • 50 mm FE510 steel plate

  • anchored to the foundation

? Designed to withstand torque and axial loads generated during dynamic testing.


Refrigeration and air treatment system

  • refrigerant: R449A

  • water-cooled condensation

  • semi-hermetic Dorin compressor

  • dedicated dehumidification coil

  • armored electric heaters (dual safety)

  • steam humidification

? Ensures climatic stability even under dynamic load conditions.


Control system

DOT CliMaLogic® PLC platform:

  • 50 programs × 20 steps

  • chainable macros

  • CSV data logging

  • Modbus TCP/IP communication

  • integration with customer acquisition systems


Results

The installed configuration allows Stellantis to:

  • cover all current and future e-axle configurations

  • increase laboratory flexibility

  • reduce setup time between test benches

  • ensure repeatable and safe climatic testing
