Full upgrade of a Weiss climatic cell for full-vehicle climatic and vibration testing with a 4-Poster system

Il Disgelo carried out for Stellantis Mirafiori a complete revamping of an existing climatic test cell of approximately 250 m³, originally manufactured by Weiss and integrated with a 4-Poster test system for dynamic testing on complete vehicles.

The intervention involved the complete refurbishment of the electrical systems, refrigeration systems and control system, with the aim of bringing the machine up to new standards of performance, accuracy and reliability while retaining and enhancing the existing structure.

Developed Solution

The project involved a complete review of the cell’s plant architecture, focusing on the main subsystems responsible for thermal-climatic regulation and operational management.

The refrigeration system was completely upgraded to guarantee the new required temperature range, while the electrical system and control architecture were renewed to provide more accurate and reliable management of the test cycles.

The solution was developed to ensure:

  • reuse of the existing climatic chamber structure;
  • complete revamping of a Weiss climatic cell;
  • integration with a 4-Poster test system;
  • climatic and vibration testing on complete vehicles;
  • complete refurbishment of the refrigeration system;
  • complete refurbishment of the electrical system;
  • upgrade of the control system;
  • temperature range from −30 °C to +80 °C;
  • relative humidity control;
  • management of complex climatic cycles;
  • improved accuracy in parameter regulation;
  • increased operational reliability;
  • restoration of full machine functionality;
  • adaptation of performance to new testing requirements.

Result

The intervention enabled Stellantis Mirafiori to recover and restore to full efficiency an existing 250 m³ climatic test cell, avoiding complete replacement of the system and focusing the revamping on the most critical technological subsystems.

The new configuration makes it possible to carry out climatic and vibration testing on complete vehicles with a 4-Poster system, maintaining accurate control of temperature and humidity even during complex cycles and restoring the machine to high levels of reliability and operational continuity.
