Dehydrogenation and Stress Relieving of Aerospace Components
Il Disgelo designed and built for Collins Aerospace, at the Microtecnica plant (Actuation Systems Italy division) in Brugherio (MB), a forced-air low-temperature heat treatment oven for the dehydrogenation and stress relieving of critical components used in aerospace actuation systems.
Developed Solution
- SCF V-686s oven with vertical forced-air flow and finned armored heating elements for maximum heat exchange
- Stainless steel interior chamber, painted steel exterior panels with high-efficiency thermal insulation to minimize energy losses
- Dual side-channel air distribution system ensuring temperature uniformity across the entire usable volume
- Manually operated exhaust damper for air renewal, engineered not to interfere with thermal stability inside the test chamber
- Overhead bar support system for hanging components vertically, plus two removable AISI 304 shelves
- Provision for centralized data acquisition, compatible with connection to other ovens on site
Main Technical Data
- Usable volume: 686 litres (internal dimensions 1400H x 700W x 700D mm)
- Temperature range: +60°C to +300°C
- Temperature uniformity: ±10°C, compliant with the AMS 2750 aerospace pyrometry standard
- Installed power: 7 kW — Power supply: 400V three-phase + N + T
- Paperless graphic recorder with touch screen, internal/USB data storage, data export and network notifications
- Two digital temperature controllers (control + safety) with auto-tune algorithm
- Three type-N temperature probes: control, safety (on the air return grille) and a movable probe for uniformity testing
- Dedicated safety system: PLC-based temperature control, residual-current circuit breaker with shunt trip coil, manual-reset gas-expansion safety thermostat independent of the PLC
- CE marking, ACCREDIA calibration on three temperature points
Result
The equipment passed the two-stage acceptance procedure required by Collins Aerospace's technical specification — a first acceptance test (TUS and SAT, verifying process temperature hold) at Il Disgelo's own facility, followed by a second on-site acceptance test at the Microtecnica plant in Brugherio upon completion of staff training. The oven is now fully operational in the Spool & Sleeve department, with scheduled calibration and maintenance in place.
